The Eurasian Wigeon feeds on leaves, plant stems, roots and seeds taken from the water. As it moves its head, it takes in water and uses pressure exerted by its tongue to sieve out sand and stones and retain edible plant matter in its mouth cavity. Its skull is small compared to the size of its bill, which is long and flat with laminar structures along its edges.
